Why collaborate with us?
We are Asociación Os Patexeiros, a small non-profit organization based in Sada, a fishing village in the Rías Altas of Galicia where the sea has always been a source of livelihood, identity, and way of life. Our story began when we tried to save the Balbina, the last patexeiro boat in Galicia. When we learned it was going to disappear, we knew we could not allow it. However, despite our efforts, the lack of resources, the absence of our own pontoon, and insufficient support led to its loss during a storm. With it, we did not just lose a boat, but an irreplaceable part of our collective memory.
That loss marked a turning point. We do not want it to happen again. That is why we are promoting the creation of a floating ecomuseum: a living space where traditional boats are not only preserved, but also sailed, understood, and brought back into people’s lives. This project is complemented by a land-based space dedicated to maritime culture, where people can learn trades such as traditional boatbuilding, sailmaking, and traditional fishing techniques, keeping alive knowledge that is on the verge of disappearing.
Today, we have finally taken a decisive step: the administration has officially granted us a 300 m² land area and a 700 m² water surface in front of the seafront promenade. This is a unique opportunity, but also an urgent challenge: we must carry out the project in approximately one year. Although we have applied for numerous public grants, we need an initial push that will allow us to start building, restoring, and making this dream a reality.
That is why we need your help. Your contribution will allow us to launch the floating museum, restore traditional boats, create the cultural space, and ensure that this heritage does not disappear. Supporting us means being part of something greater: keeping alive the history, identity, and maritime soul of Galicia.
